After you checked the specifications of your computer (see below), the installation of FaLC is completed in three steps:
a) If needed, you first install Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE 7 or later).
b) Then, you download the FaLC-Installer (FaLC-installation-wizard.jar).
c) Finally, you start the FaLC-Installer and follow the instructions.
FaLC will be installed in a folder FaLC at the location you specified during the installation process. To start FaLC, you dubble-click the batch-file in this folder (run_falc_gui.bat for MS-Windows, run_falc_gui.sh for Linux-Distributions).
Please note: the trial version does not include all features of FaLC - currently, the status of the Trial Version is May 2015.

The requirements for your computer are highly dependent on the intended model calculations.
The FALC software requires at least the following hardware specifications:
- Dual-core CPU
- 64-bit architecture
- 4GB RAM
- 4GB hard disk storage
- network connection
These specifications are enough to work with the sample projects. In order to perform, for example, simulations for whole of Switzerland, at least 8 MB RAM are required (with approximately 8 million inhabitants, 4 million employees and 3,000 locations). In addition, 8 and more cores enable parallel runs.
The core of FaLC (FaLC-core, see below), is published under a Dual Licence. Therefore, the code of FaLC-pro is published as Open-Source-Code (AGPL Version 3) as well as under the proprietary FaLC-pro-License .
Additionally, FaLC-pro involves different libraries of third parties under various Open-Source-Licenses (see Overview libraries and licences).
FaLC-core basically involves models of the annual cycles. These are processed sequentially in each simulation cycle. In a first step, distances may are recalculated and changed assumptions are imported. Afterwards, demographic models are processed before the companies may change. The models in FaLC-core are also part of FaLC-pro.
To allow the user the greatest possible flexibility in the model design, the code of FaLC-core is openly available and adaptable. Therefore, FaLC-core is under a Double License (FaLC-pro-License and AGPL).
A land use model was created and already tested several times for Switzerland. A template has been derived from this model containing prepared data for the cantons of Appenzell and St.Gallen. This can be used for testing purposes as well as a template for own models. The status of the provided models and parameters corresponds to the state of work in January 2015. The template is also supplied with FaLC-pro.
